Funded PhD Position in Motor Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Seoung Hoon Park, Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is recruiting a funded PhD student for the Motor Neuroscience and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory (MoNeL) for Fall 2027. MoNeL studies the behavioral, biomechanical, and neurophysiological mechanisms of motor control and motor learning in healthy older adults and individuals with stroke. The lab also develops innovative rehabilitation approaches to improve walking, balance, and functional mobility. Research methods include gait and balance perturbation, instrumented treadmill assessment, whole-body kinematic and kinetic analysis, EMG, EEG, IMU-based motion capture, and immersive virtual-reality experiments. Applicants should have a master’s degree completed by enrollment and programming experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python, C, or a related language. Experience in human-participant research, biomechanics, neurophysiology, signal processing, motor control, or neurorehabilitation is especially valued. The position is funded and includes a graduate assistantship, tuition waiver, health insurance benefits, and a monthly stipend.
