PhD Position on Single-Molecule Protein Nano Dielectrophoresis

This PhD position at the University of Twente focuses on developing a cutting-edge platform for studying protein dielectrophoresis at the single-molecule level. The research centers on using nanogap dielectrophoresis to trap individual protein molecules and unravel the mechanisms behind this phenomenon. The project is highly interdisciplinary, combining advanced optical measurements with custom-built microscopy, handling and preparation of protein samples, surface chemistry, and the use of electric signals to manipulate and study proteins. The successful candidate will gain expertise in advanced optics, electrodynamics, engineering of electric tweezers, basic surface chemistry, data analysis, measurement automation, scientific writing, and soft skills such as presentation, time management, teamwork, and student supervision. The research will be conducted within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS), which is renowned for its contributions to ICT and its collaborative, international research environment. Facilities include cleanrooms, optical, electronic, and chemical laboratories, and access to multidisciplinary research institutes such as Mesa+ Institute, TechMed Centre, and Digital Society Institute. Applicants should have a strong background in a relevant field (physics, biology, chemistry, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering) and demonstrate motivation and readiness to master the complex experimental techniques involved. The position offers a vibrant and supportive research community, with opportunities for professional development and teaching experience. The intended start date is around April 1, 2026, and the application deadline is January 15, 2026. Screening is part of the selection procedure, and candidates are advised to write a highly personalized motivation letter. For further information, contact Sergii Pud at the provided email address.
