Assistant Professor in Pharmacology (Novel Therapies) at Karolinska Institutet

Karolinska Institutet is recruiting an Assistant Professor in Pharmacology with a focus on Novel Therapies at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (FyFa), Campus Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. This is an opportunity to build an independent research programme in a highly collaborative, international environment with 30 research groups and 90 doctoral students. The strategic focus area Novel Therapies includes emerging therapeutic modalities, translational pharmacology, and data-driven approaches to drug development. The subject area may include biologics, gene- and cell-based therapies, RNA-based drugs, innovative target and biomarker discovery, and technology-enabled drug development. The position is designed for an early-career scientist who wants to establish and lead a research group, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to teaching and graduate education. FyFa’s broader strengths include neuropharmacology, pain, endocrinology, cardiovascular pharmacology, precision medicine, and related biomedical research. Funding: the appointment is for six years and includes 12 MSEK in start-up funding to cover salary and research costs. KI also indicates a pathway from the time-limited assistant professorship to permanent employment as Senior Lecturer. Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area and have at least two peer-reviewed original scientific publications as first or last author. Preference is given to candidates who earned their PhD within the last seven years, although deductible time may be considered with documentation. Pedagogical requirements are waived for this call, but the successful candidate must complete three weeks of higher education pedagogical courses within two years unless equivalent training is already documented. Application deadline: 31 August 2026 at 23:59 CEST. Applications must be submitted in English through the Varbi recruitment system and include a personal letter, application form with research project, up to ten published papers and optionally one manuscript, and PhD certificate. If claiming deductible time, include supporting certificates. Institution: Karolinska Institutet, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Biomedicum Research Centre, Campus Solna, Stockholm, Sweden.
