AstraZeneca is funding a non-clinical PhD studentship at the University of Cambridge Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) and the AstraZeneca Discovery Centre. The project aims to decipher cellular determinants of sensitivity to high-LET radiation, informing combination strategies with next-generation Targeted Alpha Therapies. Supervised by Professor Sir Steve Jackson and Dr Mark O'Connor, the research will explore the effects of radioligand therapies on cell viability and DNA damage response activation in human cell models. The student will use CRISPR screens to identify factors affecting resistance and sensitivity, followed by mechanistic studies of key targets. The work may reveal new biomarkers and therapeutic vulnerabilities in cancer cells. Funding covers a four-year stipend, Home tuition fees, and project consumables. The position is open to UK citizens, eligible overseas students, or those able to secure additional funding for international fees. Applicants with strong research experience in relevant fields are encouraged to apply. The course starts on 1st October 2026. Application details and further information are available via the Cambridge postgraduate portal.
