Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) in Frankfurt am Main is recruiting a PostDoc (m/f/d) in Data-Driven Social Ecological Research at the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (SBiK-F). The position starts as soon as possible and is offered as a temporary appointment for up to three years, with full-time employment and part-time options available. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment focused on the complex interactions between biodiversity, climate, and society. The role is closely connected to the Institute for Social-Ecological Research (ISOE) and involves collaboration across Senckenberg’s natural-science and social-science groups, as well as partner institutions. The research aims to develop quantitative approaches to measure and analyze human–nature interactions, integrate multiple data streams, and identify leverage points for effective stewardship and monitoring of nature under climate change. Key tasks include developing quantitative methods for social-ecological research, combining ecological, social, remote-sensing, and citizen-science data into coherent models of social-ecological system dynamics, advancing monitoring frameworks that better incorporate social dimensions, and publishing results in leading international journals. The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to ongoing projects at SBiK-F and help strengthen connections between biodiversity research and society-focused analysis. The profile sought is strongly quantitative. Applicants should hold a PhD in ecology, environmental science, quantitative social science, or a related discipline. Essential requirements include experience with empirical ecological data, preferably also social data, strong R programming or equivalent computational/statistical skills, excellent quantitative abilities, a strong publication record, and fluent English. Desirable experience includes heterogeneous data integration, AI/ML methods, interdisciplinary collaboration, quantitative social science methods, socio-economic data analysis, third-party funding experience, and familiarity with adaptive capacity, resilience, and climate-change impacts on biodiversity-society interactions. Funding is provided through the Hesse collective agreement at TV-H E13 . The application deadline is 29 November 2026 . Interested candidates must submit a single PDF application through the online system, including a motivation letter, a concise description of research interests, a full CV and publication list, copies of certificates and diplomas, and two referees. Applications by email will not be considered. Senckenberg offers a dynamic international research environment, access to a broad network of scientists and policymakers, flexible working arrangements, mobile working options, and institutional benefits such as museum admission and pension provisions.
