The Simons Center for Computational Geophysical Flows at the Courant Institute School of Mathematics, Computing, and Data Science, New York University, is a new research and training hub focused on next-generation computational methods for problems in ocean, atmosphere, and ice dynamics. The advertised postdoctoral fellowships are designed for researchers who want to pursue deep, impactful work in computational climate and geophysical flows while contributing to the growth of the center and to broader Earth and Planetary Sciences at NYU. Fellows are expected to develop research that advances both methods and applications, with emphasis on multiscale interactions, geophysical and boundary-layer turbulence, coupled atmosphere-ocean-ice systems, and the physics of rare events and climate risks such as extreme precipitation, flooding, and marine heatwaves. The role sits within an interdisciplinary environment connected to NYU’s expanding Global Science and Tech initiative and the launch of the Earth Systems Institute. Fellows will be mentored by one or more core faculty members at the center and are expected to lead independent research while collaborating across the broader NYU research community. The listed core faculty are Carlos Fernandez-Granda, Sara Shamekh, Jonathan Weare, Laure Zanna, and Yi Zhang.
