PhD Studentship in Technical HCI, Generative UI, UI Agents, Eye Tracking, and AR/VR at University of Utah
Yue Jiang, Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Utah, is actively looking for new students, including
PhD students for Fall 2027
.
The group works on
technical HCI
and human-centered AI, with research interests in
generative UI
,
UI agents
,
eye tracking
,
digital accessibility
,
AR/VR
, and related areas. Projects are described as primarily computational, focusing on building AI models that simulate user behavior and adaptive systems end to end, then evaluating them against human data.
Preferred preparation includes experience in
AR/VR
(Unity, Unreal, immersive systems) or
computer vision / AI-ML modeling
(vision, multimodal learning, reinforcement learning), plus HCI research experience with system/model contributions. Strong programming skills in
Python
and
PyTorch
or
C# / C++
for AR/VR are especially relevant.
Candidates with a strong technical background who are new to HCI are also encouraged to apply. This is a good fit for students interested in computational HCI, interactive AI systems, accessibility, and immersive technologies.
To apply, contact the professor directly and share your background, research interests, and fit for the lab. The post does not mention funding details or a formal application portal.
