About

Yuki Kamei is an Assistant Professor at Tokushima University, Japan. His research focuses on the roles of dietary phytocannabinoids, retinoic acid, and various signaling pathways in metabolic processes and cellular protection. Recent publications include studies on the effects of β-Caryophyllene on hepatic steatosis and the impact of all-trans retinoic acid on lipophagy and muscle fiber type changes. He also investigates the implications of phosphate levels on intestinal zinc absorption and vascular calcification.

We demonstrated that elevated intestinal luminal P i concentration can suppress intestinal Zn absorption activity without decreasing the expression of the associated Zn transporter. Increased intestinal luminal P i led to the formation of an insoluble complex with Zn while dietary P i restriction or administration of a P i binder ameliorated hypozincemia in chronic kidney disease model rats. Therefore, modulation of dietary P i by P i restriction or a P i binder might be useful for the treatment of hypozincemia and hyperphosphatemia.
