About this position
China Scholarship Council – University of Leeds Scholarships 2027 are available for up to 13 international fee-paying applicants who are nationals of the People’s Republic of China. This is a fully funded PhD research scholarship at the University of Leeds, open across all Faculties and subject areas.
The award supports full-time postgraduate research study leading to the degree of PhD for 3 years. Funding includes full international tuition fees from the University of Leeds, while the China Scholarship Council provides maintenance, flight costs, and visa costs.
Applicants must be citizens of China and either currently studying at a Chinese institution or working in China at the time of application. Candidates must not already hold a doctoral degree and must be new PhD researchers; students already registered for PhD study are not eligible. Applicants should normally hold a first degree equivalent to at least a UK First Class Honours degree, with strong academic standing, and must meet the University of Leeds English language requirement by the deadline.
The minimum English requirement stated is IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component, or equivalent, although some schools/faculties may require higher scores. Applicants must also agree to return to China after completing the PhD.
Application is a two-stage process: first apply for a relevant research programme of study and submit all required supporting documents by the scholarship deadline; then, after receiving a 9-digit Student Application ID, complete the online scholarship application form. CSC applicants must also complete the CSC forms and choose the CSC-Leeds Joint Programme Channel.
Deadline for application forms is Wednesday 6 January 2027 at 17:00 UK time. Funding starts on 1 October 2027.
