About this position

DEWIN – Dynamics of Host-Pathogen Interactions is an international doctoral programme at Hannover Medical School, based in Hannover and run in cooperation with Twincore – Centre for Experimental and Clinical Infection Research, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Braunschweig.

The programme is centered on infection biology and asks doctoral researchers to investigate the complex interactions between host and pathogen. Students work on a three-year research project using the combined tools of immunology, cell biology, and molecular biology, with English as the teaching language throughout.

Participants join a structured research environment with seminars, conventions, and lab courses, and become part of the Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS). The programme highlights close support through a network of supervisors and support teams, and aims to train highly qualified scientists for careers in the life sciences and biomedical research.

The cohort is international, with 20 students accepted each year after a competitive selection procedure, and the programme is embedded in a wider research and training environment that includes advisory services, workshops, soft skills courses, career days, and support for international doctoral candidates.
