About this position
This scholarship supports a PhD in cancer research at a French university, with the dissertation carried out in a laboratory in France. It is funded by the Ligue Nationale Contre le Cancer, France’s largest independent non-profit organisation supporting cancer research.
The call is broad in the way it defines eligible cancer-related work, spanning basic research, translational research, clinical research, epidemiological research, and applied social sciences focused on cancer and cancer prevention. This makes it suitable for doctoral projects across laboratory, clinical, population, and prevention-oriented settings, as long as the research is clearly connected to cancer.
Successful candidates are appointed through a fixed-term employment contract rather than a standard grant, and the programme is designed for full-time doctoral research. The funding is intended to support doctoral work in France within a recognised doctoral school, with the support of the national cancer research funding organisation behind the scheme.
Funding details

What's required
Applicants must have obtained a Master’s degree (M2) in 2025 or 2026 at a French higher education institution, or an equivalent qualification from a country within the European Higher Education Area. Junior doctors who do not meet this requirement may be considered case by case. Applicants must enrol in 2026 as a first-year PhD student at a doctoral school recognised by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research. The dissertation must be written in a laboratory in France. The project must relate to cancer, and applicants from outside the EU/EEA must obtain a work permit or long-term academic visa before signing the contract. Only one candidate per host research team may apply, and the grant cannot be combined with other funding; the PhD must be full-time.
How to apply
Submit the application online via the Ligue’s research platform between 2 May and 11 June 2026 at 23:59. Upload the Master’s grades and doctoral school ranking by 13 July 2026 if needed. Wait for assessment by four national expert panels and the results announcement on 22 October 2026.
