About this position
The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory (EL) offers a research appointment within a broad environmental science and engineering environment. As one of seven laboratories in USACE-ERDC, EL focuses on solving environmental challenges for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the nation through applied research and development.
Participants will work under the guidance of a mentor in a real-world laboratory setting and gain hands-on experience with modern research technologies and techniques. The opportunity is designed to support career development in STEM while connecting students and early-career researchers across disciplines.
Research themes span ecosystem science and technology, environmental resiliency, environmental sensing, ecological modeling and forecasting, risk and decision science, environmentally sustainable material, systems biology, climate change, computational chemistry, environmental chemistry, and environmental security. The appointment is administered through ORISE for the U.S. Department of Defense research participation program.
The location varies and the appointment may be part-time or full-time for up to twelve months, with possible extension depending on funding, project assignment, program rules, and participant availability.
