About this position
The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for students planning to begin an Accounting and Finance PhD in October 2027.
This opportunity combines doctoral research with structured teaching development. Successful candidates receive an annual maintenance grant of £21,805 for four years, full coverage of PhD programme fees for four years, and HE teacher training and practice. In the first year, fellows complete a short teacher training programme alongside their PhD research modules. Over the rest of the doctorate, they also gain mentored classroom experience and a fixed amount of teaching hours, supporting both research development and preparation for an academic career.
The studentships are open to full-time PhD students worldwide. Applicants should hold a UK master’s degree or international equivalent in accounting and finance, or a related discipline, preferably at merit level or above. The post also requires demonstrable quantitative and programming skills. The fellowship is therefore well suited to candidates with a strong background in accounting, finance, econometrics, data analysis, and computational methods.
The call welcomes research proposals across a broad range of topics, including asset pricing and investment, empirical asset pricing and performance evaluation, investment technology, ethics and strategy, financial econometrics and machine learning, corporate finance and accounting, corporate governance and shareholder value, market-based accounting research and corporate transparency, CSR/ESG and sustainability, international financial markets and the macroeconomy, time series analysis of macro and financial indicators, social media and financial markets, and FinTech themes such as payment technologies, the future of money, explainable AI in financial services, and the integration of FinTech and big data in sustainable finance.
To apply, candidates must first express interest using the online form by Friday 27 November 2026 at 5pm (UK time). They must also submit a strong research proposal, a personal statement, a copy of the highest degree transcript, and a CV. Applicants who skip the initial expression-of-interest step will not be considered. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to make a formal application.
Applicants may suggest potential supervisors, although this is optional. The university notes that final supervisory matching will be made after reviewing the research project and fit with available expertise.
