About this position
Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) invites applications for its PhD Programme in Accounting and Finance. This is a full-time doctoral studentship designed for highly motivated candidates who want to pursue advanced research and an academic career in a world-leading research environment.
The Department of Accounting and Finance offers strong supervision, a collegial atmosphere, access to state-of-the-art databases, a strong seminar series, and a senior visitors programme. Students begin with PhD-level courses and seminars in finance theory, econometrics, and research methodology, then develop and write a thesis on a topic of their choice. Two subject experts will provide detailed supervision. The department also supports conference and research visits and may offer opportunities for international experience through visits to leading US or European schools.
Funding is generous: successful students receive a living allowance and a full fee waiver for four years. The studentships are open to Home and Overseas applicants, subject to academic criteria and English language requirements. Typical expectations include an excellent first degree, an outstanding Masters degree in a related discipline, and strong evidence of research potential. Applicants should also be prepared to contribute to teaching within LUMS during the scholarship.
The programme starts in October 2027. While applications are reviewed on a continuous basis, the department strongly recommends submitting no later than 11 January 2027 to ensure processing before funding allocation decisions. Later applications may still be considered for departmental funding if places remain available.
For more details on the doctoral programme, entry requirements, and application process, applicants should consult the programme webpage or use the online application link. Questions can be directed to Dr Mahmoud Gad, PhD Director in Accounting, and Dr Chelsea Yao, PhD Director in Finance.
