About this position
The University of Liverpool Management School is offering four-year fully funded Graduate Teaching Fellowships (GTFs) for students planning to start an Economics PhD in October 2027.
This opportunity combines doctoral research with structured teaching development. Successful candidates receive an annual maintenance grant of £21,805 for four years, full coverage of PhD programme fees for four years, and higher education teacher training and practice. In year one, fellows complete a short teacher training programme at the University of Liverpool and gain a formal higher education teaching qualification through mentored classroom shadowing and involvement. During the remainder of the PhD, students continue with doctoral research while undertaking a fixed number of teaching hours.
The studentships are open to full-time PhD students worldwide. Applicants should have a UK master’s degree, or international equivalent, in economics or a related discipline, preferably at merit level or above, together with demonstrable quantitative and programming skills.
Applicants are expected to submit a strong research proposal in an economics area such as microeconomics theory, applied microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and financial econometrics, political economy, industrial organisation, or sports economics. You must also provide a personal statement, your highest degree transcript, and a CV. Before submitting a formal application, you must first complete the expression-of-interest form by 27 November 2026 at 5pm (UK time). Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited to apply formally.
This is a strong fit for candidates seeking funded doctoral study in economics alongside teaching experience and professional development at a leading UK university.
