SOAS University of London MPhil/PhD Studentship

SOAS University of London is inviting applications for one fully funded MPhil/PhD studentship linked to the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship project Pan-African Frontiers: Reparative Futures and the Reimagining of Global Order, led by Dr Daniel Mulugeta and hosted by the SOAS Centre for Pan-African Studies in the Department of Politics and International Studies.

The project focuses on Pan-Africanism, global justice, reparations, historical redress, global governance, and the reimagining of international order. It explores Africa, the Caribbean, and diasporic communities, with possible research directions including reparations politics, African and Caribbean actors in multilateral institutions, sovereignty and multilateralism, regional cooperation, diaspora engagement, and comparative politics of reconciliation and historical justice.

The studentship is for the 2026/27 academic year and is open to Home and Overseas fee status applicants. The award covers tuition fees in full and provides a maintenance stipend; the minimum maintenance amount for 2026/27 will be £20,622. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment and will also undertake a limited number of teaching hours through the SOAS Teaching Scholarship scheme.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must be new admissions, have or expect a relevant masters degree with merit or distinction (or equivalent), and meet SOAS English language requirements if applicable. Applications are assessed on academic merit, work experience, and the personal statement.
