About this position
The South West Biosciences Doctoral Training Partnership (SWBio DTP) is offering over 34 fully funded, four-year PhD studentships starting in September 2027 across a broad range of bioscience and life-science disciplines in the United Kingdom.
Students join interdisciplinary projects supported by multidisciplinary supervisory teams. Opportunities may include DTP CASE industry studentships, collaborations with core and associate partners, international research, and fieldwork. The programme is delivered through a partnership of universities, research institutes, and industry organisations mainly located across the South West of England and Wales.
The first year combines two rotation projects with three taught units covering statistics, bioinformatics, coding, experimental design, innovation, and research impact. Years two to four focus on the selected PhD project. Students also complete either a three-month placement outside academic research or, for CASE studentships, a three- to 18-month industry placement.
Applicants must satisfy the SWBio DTP eligibility requirements. A limited number of funded studentships are available for international applicants. Students must successfully complete the first year to progress, with an MRes exit route available after successful first-year completion if they cannot continue to the PhD. The thesis must be submitted within four years of starting.
Applications close at midday GMT on 2 December 2026. Review the available projects and eligibility information on the SWBio DTP website, then apply through the jobs.ac.uk listing.
