About this position

The IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca is offering a fully funded PhD place in its doctoral programme at a state-funded research university in Lucca, Italy.

The programme is organised around several specific doctoral areas, and applicants are expected to present a focused research idea that fits one of the eligible fields. The advert highlights four main areas: Neuroscience; Cultural Systems and Cultural Heritage; Economics and Decision Sciences; and Systems Sciences, including Computer Science and Control Engineering.

The doctoral training is delivered in English, within an international selection process that treats applicants equally regardless of nationality. The call emphasizes academic achievement, the quality of the research proposal, and performance in the interview as the basis for selection. The university also notes that places are distributed across specific departments, so applicants are encouraged to ensure a strong match between their background and the chosen programme.

The scholarship is attached to the PhD place and includes a monthly stipend, accommodation on campus, and meals in the campus canteen. If selected for research abroad, the scholarship can be increased during that period. The opportunity is embedded in the wider research environment of IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca, a state-funded institution in Italy with an annual intake of several dozen scholars across its doctoral programmes.
