Macquarie University Strategic Research Scholarship

Macquarie University is offering a funded PhD scholarship in climate-resilient healthcare, focused on creating low-carbon healthcare systems and strengthening healthcare responses to climate-related risks.

This opportunity sits at the intersection of public health, medical science, environmental science, health services research, implementation science, and public policy. The project is a joint initiative involving the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI) at Macquarie University and the Northern Sydney Local Health District.

Successful candidates will join a multidisciplinary research team working on topics such as planetary health frameworks, climate change impacts on vulnerable populations, reducing healthcare’s carbon footprint, low-value care, and policies aligned with Net Zero targets.

Funding: The scholarship provides a stipend of $42,000 per annum for three years, plus full tuition coverage (tuition fee offset). A paid part-time research support position may also be available alongside the PhD.

Eligibility highlights: Applicants must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Humanitarian visa holder, or New Zealand citizen. The ideal candidate will have a Masters by Research or equivalent and evidence of research capability such as publications, conference presentations, or other outputs.
