About this position
The University of East Anglia is offering a PhD project in categorification and the Local Langlands Correspondence, based in Norwich, United Kingdom, with a start date of 1 February 2027.
The research is situated in the representation theory of p-adic groups, an area closely connected with number theory and the Local Langlands Correspondence. The project will examine representations with coefficients in different rings or fields and the derived structures of categories arising on the two sides of the correspondence.
Drawing on higher representation theory, the student will investigate how categories associated with representations of p-adic general linear groups give rise to a 2-representation of a quantum group. The work will begin by making the corresponding result precise in the p-adic setting, building on an analogous result for finite general linear groups.
The project will then explore how information from this 2-representation can be transferred across the Local Langlands Correspondence, potentially through extensions to relevant derived categories. The research will be co-supervised by Professor Shaun Stevens and Vanessa Miemietz.
