About this position

The Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP) announces a postdoctoral research scholarship under the SHIELD-HMP project, 'Shielding Lives: Integrated Strategies for the Prevention and Mitigation of Health Risks Posed by Hazardous Medicinal Products.' This project, funded by FEDER through the COMPETE 2030 program, aims to advance research on occupational health risks associated with hazardous medicinal products (HMPs) in healthcare settings.

The scholarship is open to candidates holding a PhD in Safety and Occupational Health, Chemical and Biological Engineering, or Environmental Engineering, awarded within the last three years. If the degree is from a foreign institution, recognition by a Portuguese higher education institution is mandatory. The successful candidate will join ISPUP in Porto, Portugal, and work under the supervision of Dr. Mónica Santos, contributing to a multidisciplinary team dedicated to health risk mitigation.

The research will focus on hazard identification, exposure assessment, evaluation of early biological effects and cancer risk from occupational exposure to HMPs, and the effectiveness of cleaning protocols for decontamination. Preferred qualifications include a strong publication record (at least 10 peer-reviewed articles), expertise in analytical methodologies for micropollutants, experience with LC-MS, interlaboratory comparison studies, advanced oxidation processes (Fenton and ozonation), and fluency in English. Additional skills such as communication, organizational ability, methodological rigor, teamwork, and results orientation are highly valued.

The scholarship provides a monthly maintenance allowance of €1,901 for a period of 24 months (exclusive and non-renewable). The selection process involves curriculum evaluation and, if necessary, an interview with the top candidates. Applications must be submitted by email to [email protected], including a motivation letter, CV, certificates, and proof of degree recognition (if applicable). The application deadline is May 7, 2026.

ISPUP is committed to equal opportunity and non-discrimination, ensuring fair access for all applicants. The institute also adheres to strict data protection and privacy policies throughout the recruitment process. For further information, visit ISPUP's website or consult the full position details at Euraxess.

This opportunity is ideal for postdoctoral researchers seeking to contribute to impactful health science research in occupational and environmental health, with robust funding and institutional support.
