About this position
The Stationers' Foundation University Bursary Scheme supports students starting a one-year master's course in publishing, journalism, communication, data, library and information studies, archives, communication design, or data science at one of the participating UK universities. It is a scholarship-style bursary tied to the student’s course fees and is intended for applicants who already hold an offer for an eligible programme.
The award is connected to the Stationers' Company, the historic City of London trade guild linked to the content and communications industry. Successful applicants also receive mentoring from a member of the Company during their studies, offering guidance and professional advice alongside the financial support. After graduation, bursary holders may join the Company as a Freeman, with the membership fee waived for the first three years.
The scheme is competitive and highly targeted, with a limited number of bursaries and additional Sparrow Awards for strong applicants who narrowly miss out. It is designed for students whose studies align with the Foundation’s interests in publishing, journalism and related communication fields, and who will pursue their course at the specified partner universities.

What's required
Applicants must be starting a one-year master's course beginning between September 2025 and August 2026, and must already have an accepted place (conditional or unconditional) on one of the listed programmes. Eligible courses are in publishing, journalism, library and information studies, archives, communication design or data science, and must be at City St George's, Kingston, University of the Arts London, UCL, Reading, Salford, Queen Mary or Cardiff. Applicants must be settled in the UK, classed as a UK fee payer, and have lived in the UK for the three years before the course starts. Any nationality may apply if the UK residence and fee-status rules are met. Financial need is considered, so applicants should genuinely need support. The award must be taken up for the named course and cannot be deferred.
How to apply
Submit the application form, two references (one academic and one personal), and financial details to the course director and administrator at your chosen university, not to the Stationers' Company. If shortlisted, prepare a short presentation for an interview at Stationers' Hall in London. Check whether your university holds June or July interviews, as the application deadline differs accordingly.
