About this position

EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) is advertising 2 PostDoc positions in the Artificial Intelligence in Molecular Medicine (AIMM) Lab, led by Prof. Charlotte Bunne. The lab works at the intersection of computer science, biology, and molecular medicine, with affiliation to the School of Computer and Communication Sciences, the School of Life Sciences, and the EPFL AI Center.

The positions focus on biological foundation models and cover the full stack of research: foundation model architecture development, novel pretraining objectives, tokenization, scalable architectures for biological data, multimodal learning across biological data modalities, agentic interfaces for reasoning and decision support, and translational applications in early drug discovery and biomedical sciences.

Applicants should have a PhD in machine learning, computer science, computational biology, or a closely related field (completed or near completion). The post also asks for strong experience in large-scale AI development, a solid biological background, familiarity with biological data modalities, a strong publication record, and excellent communication skills for interdisciplinary research.

Funding includes a competitive EPFL postdoc salary, full social benefits, dedicated compute access via the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS) and the Swiss AI Initiative, and collaboration with pharmaceutical industry partners. The activity rate is 100%.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. To apply, send a CV, a 1-page statement of research interests, and the names of two references. More information is available at the AIMM lab website.
