About this position
This PhD opening sits within the ERC Advanced Grant project Dynamics on and of Random Graphs (Dynamics.oRG) at Eindhoven University of Technology, led by Remco van der Hofstad in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The project focuses on the mathematics of phase transitions in stochastic processes on random graphs, with applications such as the spread of infections and consensus-reaching dynamics.
The selected candidates will join a dedicated team of PhD students, postdocs, and collaborators working on the challenge of understanding how randomness in the underlying network interacts with randomness in the process itself. A central research question is whether the random environment changes the nature of a phase transition, and if so, under what conditions and for what reasons. The work combines deep probabilistic and mathematical analysis with a broader interest in the societal relevance of network theory.
The research environment is highly collaborative: the PhD candidates will work both on shared problems with the project team and on individual research projects. The advert also highlights TU/e’s broader interdisciplinary setting, strong links with industrial partners in the Brainport Eindhoven region, and a large academic community in mathematics and computer science. The position is based on TU/e’s campus in Eindhoven.
