About this position
The University of Oxford's Department of Engineering Science is seeking applications for an Associate Professor in Control Engineering, in association with a Non-Tutorial Fellowship at Jesus College. The Oxford Control Group is internationally recognized for its research and teaching in control theory, optimisation, and a wide range of applications including energy systems, engineering biology, synthetic biology, battery management, transportation, aerospace, manufacturing, and agriculture. The group’s expertise spans large-scale, embedded, robust and distributed optimisation, polynomial/sum of squares methods, and model predictive control.
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original research in control engineering and its applications, complementing or expanding the group’s current activities. Applicants should hold a doctorate (or be close to completion) in control engineering or a related field, with a strong research record demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and collaborations. Teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels is required, along with excellent interpersonal skills for tutorial teaching. The role includes teaching undergraduate courses, supervising design and project work, and contributing to the department’s research portfolio by obtaining external funding and developing an independent research program.
The position offers a competitive salary (£58,265–£77,645 per annum) plus additional benefits from Jesus College, and an allowance for those awarded the Full Professor title. The initial appointment is for five years, with the possibility of reappointment upon successful review. The University of Oxford is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from under-represented groups. The department provides support for interview travel and caring costs, and offers a range of family-friendly and diversity-supportive policies.
To apply, candidates must submit a supporting statement, CV (including relevant publications), and research proposals as a single PDF (maximum 6 pages) via the University of Oxford recruitment portal. The deadline for applications is 12:00 noon on 6 January 2026. For further information, visit the official job posting or contact Professor Kostas Margellos at [email protected].
