About this position
This fellowship is hosted by the Division of Regulatory Science and Compliance within the CDC’s Office of Readiness and Response in Atlanta. The project places the participant in a federal regulatory environment focused on the oversight of biological materials and the public health systems that support safe, secure scientific work.
Working under the guidance of a mentor, the fellow will join the division’s Policy and Communications Team and contribute to projects that support regulatory policy development, issues management, stakeholder communications, and program coordination. The work centers on programs such as the Federal Select Agent Program, the Import Permit Program, and the U.S. National Authority for Containment of Poliovirus.
The training experience is oriented toward translating technical and scientific information into clear, audience-appropriate materials and supporting communication across internal teams, federal partners, and external stakeholders. The fellow will also gain exposure to background research, environmental scans, briefing materials, guidance development, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with policy analysts, communications specialists, microbiologists, biosafety professionals, and program officials.
Overall, the opportunity offers experience at CDC in regulatory science, public health preparedness, biosafety, biosecurity, and laboratory oversight, with a strong emphasis on policy and communications support.
