About this position
Adelaide University is seeking a Critical Minerals Postdoctoral Fellow to join Earth Sciences at the City East Campus in Adelaide, Australia. The 30-month research program is focused on understanding how Rare Earth Elements (REE) are mobilised and concentrated in weathering environments.
The project will investigate a range of critical-mineral systems, including ion-adsorption clay-hosted mineralisation, heavy mineral sands, tropical weathering profiles, carbonatite and phosphorite regolith horizons, and unconformity-related systems. Depending on the research direction, the fellow may undertake geological, geochemical, and leachability testing of REE-enriched regolith systems; detailed studies of mineral prospects and deposits; development and application of novel isotope and sensing methods to track mineralisation processes; and regional- or national-scale prospectivity mapping.
The successful researcher will become part of the Earth Sciences team and the growing Australian Critical Minerals Research Centre. The research environment provides access to advanced material-characterisation and geochemical/isotope facilities at Adelaide University, together with broader expertise from Adelaide University, CSIRO, and the ARC Centre in Critical Resources for the Future.
The role offers an opportunity to contribute to critical-minerals research through field-based investigation, laboratory analysis, innovative isotope and sensing approaches, and collaboration across university, industry, and government networks.
