About this position
Dalarna University is offering two doctoral positions in educational work leading to a PhD, with the research focus on teachers’ professional knowledge and how it can be generated, deepened, and used in the pedagogical practice of compulsory and upper secondary school.
The doctoral education is rooted in the subject of educational work, a field closely connected to teacher education and concerned with institutional pedagogical practices across preschool, school, and higher education. The advertised projects center on the knowledge object of teaching, learning, care, and upbringing, approached through didactic questions and through the conditions that shape these processes. This includes interest in teaching environments, artefacts, teacher resources, and how pedagogical assignments are designed and legitimized.
One position is oriented toward practice schools and work-based placement (VFU). This direction may involve studies of supervision in VFU, both in schools and at the university, with attention to the content, forms, and significance of supervision for the development of professional knowledge. It may also examine the interaction between teacher students and supervisors, and how this interaction contributes to planning, carrying out, and developing teaching.
The other position is oriented toward collaborative research. In this track, the project may start from teachers’ professional knowledge and investigate how it can be explored, developed, and deepened through research collaboration between the researcher and practicing teachers. The work may involve teachers and researchers jointly examining, analysing, and developing teaching practice in compulsory or upper secondary school.
The positions are based at Dalarna University in Borlänge, within a research environment that emphasizes participation in the department’s scholarly life and close engagement with the subject area. The call highlights both subject-specific and subject-didactic perspectives, as well as theory and method development as important parts of the field.
The appointment is full-time and research training is normally combined with departmental duties as stated in the advertisement.
