About this position
This PhD position at KTH Royal Institute of Technology is offered within the Quantum Materials group, focusing on the study of quantum matter, specifically 2D materials and unconventional superconductors. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, international research environment, collaborating with other PhD students, postdocs, and researchers, and will have opportunities to participate in projects both locally at KTH and at national and international large-scale research facilities.
The research centers on ultrafast carrier dynamics in 2D materials and high temperature superconductivity, which is a central unsolved problem in modern physics. The position provides training in advanced experimental techniques, including high-power lasers, ultra-high vacuum, and cryogenics, and involves conducting experiments using photoemission spectroscopy. Supervision will be provided by Dr. Maciej Dendzik and Professor Oscar Tjernberg.
The position is fully funded, with a monthly salary according to KTH’s doctoral student salary agreement, and is a full-time temporary employment for up to four years. Applicants must hold a master's degree in physics (with specialization in quantum physics, condensed matter physics, or similar), and have at least 7.5 ECTS credits in quantum mechanics, condensed matter physics, optics, and electromagnetism. Documented experience in experimental work in optics, vacuum technology, or cryogenics is required, as is English proficiency equivalent to English B/6. Selection will emphasize personal skills such as independence, collaboration, analytical ability, motivation, and responsibility.
The application process requires submission through KTH’s recruitment system, including a CV, application letter, certified copies of diplomas and grades, proof of English proficiency, and representative publications. KTH is a leading international technical university committed to equality, diversity, and sustainability, offering excellent working conditions and benefits. The application deadline is November 19, 2025.
