About this position
I am looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate (PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) for a fully funded PhD project in collaboration with UKAEA. This PhD project will work on the “HTS fusion magnet technology”, especially on the AC loss and/or quench phenomenon.
The supervisory team is consisted of Dr Jun Ma ( University of Bristol ) and Dr Jiabin Yang (UKAEA).
Academic Supervisor: Dr Jun Ma leads the University of Bristol Applied Superconductivity Lab and will provide high-quality research training and supervision for this PhD project. Jun Ma is a member of the PhD supervisor team for the EPSRC CDT in Superconductivity: Enabling Transformative Technologies (University of Bristol, University of Cambridge, University of Oxford) ( https://lnkd.in/grR_VUKq ), of which UKAEA is a key industrial partner. This PhD project can be supported by EPSRC CDT in Superconductivity: Enabling Transformative Technologies.
An experienced industrial supervisor Dr Jiabin Yang from UKAEA working on HTS magnets technology will support and co-supervise this PhD project. As part of this PhD project, you will be able to carry out research in UKAEA and have the access to many research platforms in both UKAEA and University of Bristol Applied Superconductivity Lab.
Below experience and skills will be desirable:
1- HTS REBCO coated conductors (simulations and experiments).
2- Electromagnetic modelling and simulation by using FEA (COMSOL or other FEA tools).
3- UG background from Electrical Engineering (or EEE).
You will be offered training and learning opportunities for those skills and knowledge if you currently don’t have.
If interested, please send the following application documents to Dr Jun Ma ( [email protected] ):
1- CV detailing relevant experience or publications.
2- UG and MSc transcripts.
3- Cover letter detailing relevant experiences.
4- Reference letters (can be submitted later but before the below DDL).
The DDL for application is January 27, 2025. We will review early applications and will invite suitable applicants for interviews after receiving your application documents within 2 weeks.
