About this position

This research opening at the DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory focuses on Flash Ablation Metalization (FAM) for 3D printed electronic components. The project builds on ARL’s new approach for increasing the conductivity of composite fused-filament-fabrication parts through exposure to a pulse of intense white light.

The selected researcher will study the FAM process, work to understand and improve it, and help create army-useful prototypes using the technology. The topic sits within the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD), ARL’s center for research on the electromagnetic spectrum and related sensing, source, and protection technologies.

The broader environment spans research in solid-state devices, materials, sensors, power devices, and related areas across physics, electrical engineering, computer science, chemical engineering, materials science, and electrochemistry. The opportunity is part of the ARL Research Associateship Program and is linked to the laboratory’s work on advanced technologies for future Army needs.
