About this position

Erasmus University Rotterdam’s Rotterdam School of Management is inviting applications for a fully funded, salaried PhD in Finance. The finance faculty is an international research group with strengths in asset pricing, corporate finance, and banking and financial intermediation.

Research topics may include asset management and financial markets; private equity, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and sustainable finance; or financial regulation and FinTech. Students develop research projects with advisors, use advanced finance databases and appropriate quantitative methodologies, and progressively become independent researchers. Candidates are encouraged to pursue collaborative work, while at least one paper should be single-authored.

Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in finance. A finance MSc or MPhil is not mandatory, although preparation in microeconomics, econometrics, quantitative economics, and/or computational economics is preferred. The application should identify the field that best matches the candidate’s interests, and may include a brief research-project description.

The position is fully funded and salaried at €3,204–€4,051 for a full-time appointment, with benefits under the Dutch Universities collective labour agreement. PhD researchers typically have the opportunity to visit a leading international university for three to six months. The application deadline is 15 January 2027.

Applications should include the documents required by the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM) and be submitted through the university’s applicant portal. Questions about admissions can be directed to [email protected].
