About this position
Erasmus University Rotterdam is offering a fully funded, salaried PhD position in Decision Neuroscience through the Erasmus Center for Neuroeconomics, hosted by the Marketing department of the Rotterdam School of Management.
The project is open-ended: PhD candidates develop and execute their own research projects in consultation with advisers. Research may address decision-making, persuasive communication, emotions and choice, dishonesty, charitable giving, consumer judgments, advertising, neuroforecasting, and neural prediction of population-level outcomes. Methods include fMRI, EEG, eye-tracking, facial coding, hormone measurement, behavioral experiments, machine learning, and advanced multivariate analyses such as MVPA and RSA.
Applicants should have a Master's degree, preferably a Research Master's or MPhil, in cognitive neuroscience, cognitive psychology, neuroeconomics, data science, or a related field. Experience with fMRI acquisition or analysis and programming in Python, Matlab, or R is required. EEG experience, advanced fMRI analysis, multilevel modeling, neural reliability methods, and machine learning are advantageous. Strong English communication, research independence, methodological rigor, curiosity, and motivation for an academic career are expected.
The position is based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, within a collaborative and international research environment. Candidates have access to MRI facilities at Erasmus Medical Centre, behavioral and EEG laboratories, eye-tracking and VR equipment, and high-performance computing. The salary is €3,204–€4,051 for a 1.0 FTE appointment, with employment benefits under the Dutch university collective agreement. Additional funding may support a 3–6 month international research visit.
The application deadline is 15 January 2027. Applicants should follow the ERIM full-time PhD programme instructions and indicate any interest in research at the intersection of neuroscience and quantitative marketing or consumer behavior.
