About this position

The Center for 17th- and 18th-Century Studies and the William Andrews Clark Memorial Library at the University of California, Los Angeles invite applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the humanities. The fellow will join a vibrant research community built around the Clark Library’s special collections and the Center’s interdisciplinary forum for research and discussion across disciplines and geographies.

The appointment is designed for a scholar whose research will benefit from the Clark Library’s rare books, manuscripts, and primary sources. The collections are especially strong in the study of England and Western Europe from the Tudor period through the long eighteenth century, as well as the mid-Victorian to late Edwardian periods, with a notable focus on Oscar Wilde and his circle. The library also supports work on modern book arts, fine printing, the history of the book, and Montana and the West.

The fellowship is open to researchers working with the library’s diverse holdings on topics including queer studies, disability studies, ecocritical studies, women authors, collectors, printmakers, music and musicology, astronomy, geographies, mathematics, games, crime and incarceration, the supernatural, translation, architecture, foodways, and how-to manuals. The successful candidate will develop an independent research agenda while participating in the Center’s academic life, teaching a seminar connected to their field, contributing to the certificate program’s core course, and collaborating with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and visiting researchers.

This position is intended for a humanities scholar with innovative, cross-disciplinary research interests and a project that can make strong use of the Clark Library’s collections and the broader intellectual environment at UCLA.
