About this position
The GGNB Physics of Biological & Complex Systems programme is an international PhD research school at the University of Göttingen, run in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences (MPI-NAT) and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organisation (MPI-DS).
The programme focuses on the quantitative and molecular understanding of life processes at the interface of physics, chemistry, and the life sciences. Doctoral researchers can work on topics such as biomolecular structure and dynamics, biological membranes, the cytoskeleton, motor proteins, cell division, intracellular transport, communication and sensory processes, and structure and pattern formation in interacting cells and tissues, including heart muscle.
Students are introduced to cutting-edge advanced microscopy and to new techniques for studying life processes with quantitative physical approaches and synthetic strategies. The programme is designed to break down barriers between disciplines and give graduate students exposure to physics, chemistry, and biology in an interdisciplinary research environment.
The school also connects doctoral researchers with structured research and supervision, research training and discussion, and wider support services for international students in Göttingen.
Funding details
No tuition fees.
