About this position

The International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) at Justus Liebig University Giessen offers a doctoral programme for applicants working on a dissertation project in an interdisciplinary research environment. The programme is built around a research colloquium that allows doctoral researchers to present their work each semester and discuss it with teachers, fellow postgraduates, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, and professors.

As part of the GCSC, participants work within an international and interdisciplinary framework designed to support the development and qualitative improvement of their dissertation projects. The centre emphasises academic exchange across research areas, giving students a setting to develop and refine their own research interests while contributing to joint projects and events.

The programme also connects doctoral candidates with a broader support structure that includes research training, career development, teaching opportunities, mentoring, editorial support, and other academic services for early-stage researchers. It is based in Gießen and combines English- and German-language teaching in a fully on-site format with voluntary online elements.
