About this position
The International Max Planck Research School — From Molecules to Organisms is an interdisciplinary doctoral programme in the life sciences at the University of Tübingen, offered in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Biology Tübingen and the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory.
The programme is designed for PhD researchers who want to study complex biological processes across multiple levels of organisation, from molecules to organisms and even ecosystems. Projects and training are offered by around 25 faculty members, creating a broad research environment that connects doctoral candidates and faculty across traditionally separate fields.
Research areas represented in the programme include structural, molecular and cellular biology, biophysics, biochemistry, genetics, animal and plant development, computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics, microbiology and microbiome science, ecology, and evolutionary biology.
Students work within a strong research infrastructure that includes NMR, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, and light microscopy platforms, as well as the Genome Centre with next-generation sequencing technology and the Proteome Centre Tübingen with high-accuracy Orbitrap mass spectrometers.
The programme is run in an international English-language environment and supports doctoral researchers through structured supervision, optional courses, research training and discussion, career support activities, and practical help with relocation and accommodation.
