About this position

IMPRS MarMic is an interdisciplinary marine microbiology MSc/PhD programme based at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, in cooperation with the University of Bremen, Constructor University Bremen, and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research.

The programme trains students to investigate marine prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbiology through a broad research and teaching environment spanning physiology, ecology, evolution, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and related areas. Students are prepared to work across different scales of marine science, from biogeochemistry and genomic analysis to single-cell interactions and the behaviour of microbes in mixed communities.

The advert highlights MarMic as a structured research and supervision environment with research training and discussion, as well as career-development support such as soft-skills training and career workshops. It is designed to educate a new generation of marine scientists and to build a strong foundation for research careers in academia, institutes, and industry.

The programme is taught fully in English and is located in Bremen.
