About this position

The Cornell East Asia Program and the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies are offering an in-residence postdoctoral research opportunity in Korean studies at Cornell University’s Ithaca campus for the 2027-2028 academic year. The position is designed for scholars whose work on Korea connects across humanities fields and reaches beyond conventional boundaries, with a strong emphasis on comparative, global, and interdisciplinary approaches.

The program is centered on building new collaborations and strengthening scholarship on Korea in the contemporary world. It welcomes research that speaks to dialogue across disciplines and can connect Korean studies with broader conversations in the humanities. Alongside traditional areas such as literature and history, the opportunity explicitly embraces Korea-focused work in areas including environmental humanities, material culture, Indigenous studies, blue humanities, gender studies, and Asian American studies.

Successful candidates will work within the East Asia Program and the Einaudi Center, and will engage with mentors and peers across Cornell. The role includes active participation in Korean studies events and broader program activities, plus at least one public research presentation for the Cornell community. Undergraduate teaching is optional and may be arranged if desired.

The appointment is structured as a non-teaching research residency with access to Cornell’s facilities, libraries, and research environment.
