About this position
Ghent University’s Mechanics of Materials and Structures group is offering a PhD project on the numerical simulation of composite hydrogen tanks. The position sits within a broader research effort on hydrogen storage for the future hydrogen economy and is connected to a large new project with several leading companies in the automotive industry.
The doctoral research will focus on finite element modelling and design of pressurized composite tanks under different operational conditions, including pressurization, depletion, and thermomechanical loads. The topic is strongly application-driven, targeting safer and more effective hydrogen storage solutions for both vehicles and refuelling infrastructure.
The PhD researcher will work in close collaboration with industrial partners and with other doctoral and postdoctoral colleagues working on composite hydrogen tanks, contributing to a strong and complementary research team. The project is based at Ghent University in Belgium and is embedded in an active academic-industrial environment in composite materials and hydrogen technologies.
