About this position

TU Wien’s Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics, Research Unit Chemical Technologies, is advertising two PhD/Prae-Doc positions and one Post-Doc position in the area of inorganic materials and ceramic materials engineering.

The Prae-Doc openings are in the Research Group Inorganic Materials (Prof. de Oro Calderon) and the Research Group Ceramic Materials Engineering. The research topics include inorganic composites, ceramic materials technology, sustainable processing, process-structure-property relationships, powder metallurgy, shaping/structuring processes, materials characterization, microscopy, and thermodynamic modeling (e.g., CALPHAD). The positions also involve teaching support, student supervision, dissertation work, and publication activities.

The Post-Doc opening is in Ceramic Materials Engineering and focuses on microstructural characterization of inorganic materials, processing and nano-/microstructuring of ceramics, advanced electron microscopy methods (EDX, EBSD, high-temperature SEM, in-situ/in-operando characterization), project coordination, third-party funding proposals, teaching, and student mentoring.

Eligibility highlights: Prae-Doc applicants need a master’s or diploma degree in a relevant field such as Technical Chemistry or Materials Science and Engineering, plus research experience and English at B2 level or higher. The Post-Doc role requires a completed PhD in a related field, strong publication and teaching record, and English at C1 level. German is advantageous for all roles.

Funding and contract: These are paid university staff positions at TU Wien. The Prae-Doc roles are 30 hours/week for up to 4 years with a minimum gross salary of EUR 2,832.10/month (14x/year). The Post-Doc role is 40 hours/week for up to 6 years with a minimum gross salary of EUR 5,014.30/month (14x/year). Relevant experience may increase salary.

Application deadline: 2026-05-14. Start is expected in May 2026. Apply through the TU Wien job portal using the relevant vacancy link.
