The University of Vienna is seeking a PhD candidate to join the Group of Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thomas Hummel at the Department of Neuroscience and Developmental Biology, Faculty of Life Sciences. The research group focuses on the analysis of neuronal networks in the Drosophila brain, exploring the function of the nervous system through empirical studies, molecular-genetic methods, and advanced imaging techniques. The team comprises postdocs, pre-docs, master students, and administrative staff, all sharing a commitment to understanding neural mechanisms. The successful candidate will be embedded in the Vienna Doctoral School in Cognition, Behaviour and Neuroscience (VDS CoBeNe), which promotes interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and quality assurance in PhD training. Responsibilities include planning and executing empirical studies, publishing research in international journals, presenting at conferences, participating in project acquisition, and contributing to group administration and teaching. The position offers opportunities for collaboration with international experts in trauma and traumatic sequelae, and involvement in organizing academic events. Applicants must hold a Master's or Diploma degree in biology and demonstrate experience in scientific writing, molecular-genetic research, confocal imaging, and programming. Strong IT skills, didactic abilities, and proficiency in Drosophila genetics are essential, along with excellent English communication.
