About this position

The Technical University of Denmark is inviting applications for a PhD position focused on microbial chemotaxis and root–microbe interactions. This interdisciplinary project combines microfluidics, molecular ecology, and soil microbiology to investigate how microbial communities assemble and interact with plant roots in natural soils. The research aims to develop novel tools for tracking microbial chemoattraction and signal transformation, providing insights into the taxonomy, function, and abundance of soil microorganisms.

The position is particularly suitable for candidates who are completing or have recently completed an MSc degree and are interested in interdisciplinary research at the interface of ecology and technology. The project will be supervised by Associate Professor Lars Behrendt, who holds appointments at both the Technical University of Denmark and Uppsala University. The research environment offers access to state-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative, international team.

Applicants should have a background in biology, microbiology, molecular ecology, environmental science, or a related field. Experience with microfluidics, molecular ecology, or soil microbiology is advantageous but not strictly required. The position provides an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in cutting-edge experimental techniques and contribute to advancing our understanding of plant–microbe interactions.

For full details on the position, funding, and application process, please consult the official advertisement linked below. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply and reach out to the supervisor with any questions.
