About this position
PhD opportunity at the University of Sheffield in topological quantum photonics and 2D materials.
The project explores how topologically protected light states can be created through strong light-matter interaction with chip-integrated monolayer semiconductors (van der Waals semiconductors). The goal is to develop efficient and robust quantum optical processing and compact quantum photonic devices.
The student will work across the research groups of Prof. Dmitriy Krizhanovskii and Prof. Alexander Tartakovskii within the Semiconductor Photonics and Quantum Technology (SPQT) research cluster.
Research activities include nanophotonic device design, fabrication, advanced optical spectroscopy, topological photonics, quantum optics, semiconductor nanotechnology, and work with 2D materials.
Applicants should have a strong background in physics, photonics, quantum technologies, materials science, or a related subject. Experimental research, nanofabrication, and quantum optics experience or enthusiasm are especially valued.
The position is fully funded for UK applicants, and outstanding international applicants may be able to apply for a fee waiver.
Location: University of Sheffield, UK.
