About this position

PhD student opportunity in translational breast cancer research at Karolinska Institutet, within Linda Lindström’s research group.

The project focuses on understanding why some patients with breast cancer develop metastatic disease and die from the disease, with particular attention to molecular oncology, tumour heterogeneity, endocrine therapy, and long-term risk. The group studies breast cancer cohorts with long follow-up and uses complementary approaches that combine clinical data, statistical analysis, molecular analyses, and newer methods such as spatial proteomics and image analysis.

This is a fully funded PhD studentship with a contractual salary. The position is based in an interdisciplinary and international environment at Karolinska Institutet, with collaborations across the US, the Netherlands, Norway, and Spain. The doctoral student will work on analytical and practical tasks, scientific writing, seminars, and presentations, and may also contribute to coordination of patient information and molecular work.

Applicants should have a background in computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a related field. Strong interest in cancer research, data analysis, and interdisciplinary work is important. Required eligibility includes a master’s degree or equivalent advanced study, plus English proficiency equivalent to English B/English 6. Merits include experience with breast cancer research, cancer biology, R/Python, molecular biology, and high-throughput methods such as gene expression profiling or RNA/DNA sequencing.

The application deadline is 25 June 2026. Interested candidates should review the vacancy details and submit their application through the provided portal link.
