About this position
VIB is advertising a PhD student or postdoctoral researcher position in in vivo CRISPR screening within the Laboratory of Causal Systems Immunology in Belgium. The project sits at the intersection of immunology, single-cell perturbation screening, causal inference, probabilistic AI, and computational biology, with a strong emphasis on understanding how genes shape immune-cell states and how the immune system responds to interventions.
The lab combines experimental and computational approaches and is embedded in the VIB Center for AI & Computational Biology and the VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research. The successful candidate will help expand an established in vivo single-cell CRISPR screening pipeline by improving the workflow, applying it in new biological contexts, and identifying causal regulators of immune-cell behavior in steady-state and disease settings.
Depending on background, the role may be experimental, computational, or hybrid. Typical tasks include stem-cell engineering, screening pipeline development, vector design, perturbational data analysis, and experimental validation of computational predictions. The position also involves presenting at conferences, publishing scientific results, and contributing to the supervision of Master’s and possibly PhD students.
Eligibility: a Master’s degree for PhD applicants or a PhD for postdoctoral applicants in molecular biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, or a related field; experience in experimental or computational biology; and fluency in written and spoken English.
Funding: competitive salary and full benefits are provided. How to apply: submit the application via the online form and include a motivation letter, scientific CV, and ideally at least one referee contact. Questions can be sent to [email protected].
