About this position
This PhD project focuses on clinical and preclinical research into pharmacological treatments for gambling disorder. The study combines work with people affected by gambling problems and preclinical experiments in an animal model, with the aim of identifying promising new medication-based interventions and understanding which factors shape treatment outcomes.
The successful candidate will coordinate and carry out the project from start to finish, including study preparation, recruitment, data collection, follow-up, and analysis. On the clinical side, the PhD researcher will work with participating addiction care institutions and help organize the research process across sites. On the preclinical side, the project includes experimental work on potential drug treatments in a model of gambling disorder.
The position is based in the Department of Psychiatry at Radboudumc in Nijmegen and is part of the Nijmegen Institute for Scientist Practitioners in Addiction (NISPA). The project is embedded in a national consortium that brings together addiction care organizations, researchers, clinicians, and experiential experts from across the Netherlands.
The PhD candidate will also be affiliated with the Donders Graduate School of the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour, offering a broader academic environment and close contact with other doctoral researchers and senior scientists. The role is strongly translational, connecting patient-oriented research with experimental work to support better treatment development for gambling disorder.
