About this position

Promovendus 'Evaluatie van een digitale COPD-coach' at Radboudumc in Nijmegen is a PhD project within the DACIL consortium, focused on evaluating an innovative digital coach for people with COPD. The project sits at the intersection of clinical research, digital health, and artificial intelligence, and is embedded in the Department of Primary and Community Care.

The PhD candidate will investigate the effectiveness and clinical value of the DACIL app, which uses speech analysis, sensors, and AI to detect early changes in disease status and support healthier lifestyles for people living with COPD. The research includes studying whether the app provides reliable and valid information about health changes, testing feasibility through a proof-of-concept study, and designing and coordinating a randomized controlled trial to assess impact.

Day-to-day work will involve collecting and analyzing participant data on exacerbations, symptoms, quality of life, lifestyle, and healthcare use, as well as collaborating closely with patients, care providers, and researchers across a multidisciplinary consortium. The project brings together expertise from university medical centers, universities, patient organizations, and technology partners, creating a broad research environment for translational and practice-oriented work.

The position is based in a large collaborative network centered on improving integrated care and developing future-proof healthcare solutions. The student will contribute to publications, conference presentations, and a dissertation based on the study findings.
