About this position
Linköping University is offering a PhD position in Computer Science within the Division of Cybersecurity (CYBER), Department of Computer and Information Science. The project focuses on protecting decentralised and digitalised critical infrastructure, especially power grids and distributed energy systems.
Doctoral research will develop trustworthy AI-supported methods that help operators assess cybersecurity risks and consequences, detect attacks, reason about responses, and keep critical infrastructure operating safely. The research may address threat modelling, attack-path analysis, risk reasoning, robust and privacy-preserving intrusion or anomaly detection, and cyber resilience and decision support.
The work is motivated by the growing use of remotely controlled distributed energy resources such as solar panels, batteries, and electric-vehicle chargers. These technologies create new attack surfaces and enable attacks to spread across interconnected systems. The PhD researcher will shape individual research questions within the project’s research directions and may work with machine learning, federated learning, explainable and trustworthy AI, attack graphs, large language models, and smart-grid security.
The researcher will participate in national and European projects with academic and industrial partners, collaborate with researchers and engineers in Sweden and Europe, publish in leading security and energy-systems venues, and undertake research visits to partner organisations. CYBER researches the security of critical functions in digital society through projects involving verification, trustworthy AI, and AI-based cybersecurity.
