About this position
Uppsala University is advertising a PhD position in data-driven precision medicine within the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. The project sits at the intersection of bioinformatics, cancer research, molecular biology, and medical science, with a focus on understanding drug resistance and tumour relapse in aggressive solid tumours.
The doctoral student will work with high-throughput sequencing data, especially single-cell RNA sequencing and bulk RNA sequencing, to identify molecular drivers of resistance and relapse and to prioritize therapeutic targets. The role includes data processing, analysis, integration, and interpretation, plus biostatistical support for other projects in the research group. The position also involves collaboration with the National Genomics Infrastructure at SciLifeLab, and the work is fully on-site in Uppsala.
The position is hosted by Xiaonan Zhang, Group Leader and Associate Professor at Uppsala University. The post highlights a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and is suitable for candidates with strong computational and translational research interests.
Funding: The project is financially supported by Barncancerfonden and Cancerfonden. It is a four-year doctoral employment at 100% scope. No stipend amount is stated.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants must already hold a Master’s degree in Molecular Medicine, Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field, preferably with transcriptomics or cancer biology experience. Strong experience in bulk and single-cell RNA-seq analysis, tumour heterogeneity, data visualization, and English communication is required. Clinical research experience and a translational perspective are advantageous, and experience with mitochondrial function/metabolism analysis is especially valued.
Application window: The last application date is 13 May 2026. Applications are submitted through Uppsala University’s recruitment system, and the cover letter has been replaced by application questions.
